Minnesota River at flood stage (photos from last week) Posted on March 29th, 2010 by

Due to precipitation, fast snow melt and soil that was still frozen, the Minnesota River at Saint Peter was at flood stage last week. Some roads and bridges were closed, but property damage was minimal. The flood was less severe than the floods of 1997 and 2001.

This abandoned farmhouse and yard north of Saint Peter was flooded. Plastic-covered soil dikes kept the river off Highway 169.

The Highway 99 bridge in Saint Peter was closed due to high water.

Some houses on Front Street built dikes to hold back the river.

The disc golf course, which lies in the flood plain, was closed.

Seven Mile Creek Park was under water.

Thank you for adding these to the public eye! My Water Resources class enjoyed checking out similar water levels pre-Spring Break.

As a fun tangent, here in Colorado Springs, extremely high winds and dryness resulted in an odd dusty sky. Beautiful sunset, though!
