Geography Major Melissa Wygant attended a national conference on risks and hazards in Colorado this week. She writes:
The 36th Annual Natural Hazards Workshop held in Broomfield, Colorado, is a wonderful opportunity to network with students, educators and professionals who work in various sectors related to natural hazards. It has been a great opportunity to be able to present my Fargo-Moorhead Flood Management Practices and the MN35K/ND35K Diversion Channel Proposal at the poster session and get feedback from individuals in the field –including FEMA, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the USGS. Various workshops were held including a plenary session on the March 2011 Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami. As an undergraduate geography student this was the perfect place to make connections for graduate school and future employers!!! I definitely recommend other individuals to attend the conference.
