Matt and Jory celebrate Geography Awareness Week at Gustavus.

The Gustavus Adolphus College geography department celebrated Geography Awareness Week by posting informational posters around campus, contributing geography questions for Trivia Night at Patricks, and hosting a quiz contest in the Marketplace Cafeteria. The prize for the contestant with the highest score was a year’s subscription to National Geographic Magazine. Here is the four question quiz:

1)   To the nearest billion, what is the world population? _________________

2)   The Earth is furthest from the Sun in what month? __________________

3)   What country has the largest total Muslim population?   ____________

4)   Which of the following land uses covers the greatest acreage of land in the United States—corn, soybeans, alfalfa, or lawns?  _____________________

The winner of the contest was Math professor Mike Hvidsten who got three answers correct. Way to go Mike! Several contestants got two answers correct, but the most common score was one point. The correct answers are: 7 billion, July, Indonesia, and lawns.
