This Saturday! Gustavus Geography majors Shelbie Walsh and Elsa Bell would like to invite all of our fellow geography members to attend the Building Bridges conference at Gustavus on March 8 starting at 9am! We have been working all year to put this conference together, both of us are sub-committee leaders for projects and we have been working on all of our pre-events this week. If you have time, stop by the caf on Friday for GAC’s Got Talent at 7:00pm!
The topic this year is environmental justice, something we as geographers are exposed to when thinking about the interconnections of our world. We are very excited to be hosting Van Jones and Alexie Torres Flemming as our two keynote speakers. Van Jones is an activist and has done work with finding economic solutions to the environmental crisis we are in. Alexie Torres Flemming has been a victim of environmental injustices in her community in the Bronx. She is coming to speak on her experience as an activist.
The aim of the conference is to inform and get people talking about these issues that affect all of us in one way or another. We encourage you all to attend and we look forward to seeing you there!
